Senator Veronica Maina Commended for Exemplary Leadership in Advancing Gender Equality

By John Kariuki

The Kenya Women Senators Association (KEWOSA), under the dynamic leadership of Senator Veronica Maina, convened a high-level meeting to deliberate on strategies for advancing gender equality and strengthening women’s participation in policy and governance across the country.

Busia County Deputy Governor commended Senator Maina for her outstanding leadership and commitment in steering KEWOSA towards transformative action that uplifts women and protects gender equality gains made over the years.

“Senator Veronica Maina continues to exemplify visionary leadership through her steadfast dedication to promoting inclusive policies that empower women and girls across Kenya. Her work at KEWOSA has set the pace for stronger intergovernmental collaboration on gender equality,” the Deputy Governor noted.

The meeting highlighted the need for deliberate and intentional policy formulation to safeguard progress made in gender equality while addressing emerging challenges that continue to hinder women’s advancement.

Participants further underscored the importance of women leaders taking an active role in the budget-making process to identify and bridge funding gaps that affect women and girls.

The Deputy Governor also raised concern over the rising cases of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) in Busia County, calling for enhanced cooperation among law enforcement agencies, the judiciary, civil society, and community leaders to deliver justice and support survivors.

“We cannot remain silent as survivors of SGBV are denied justice. The County Government of Busia remains committed to working with all partners to build a safer and more dignified society for all,” she affirmed.

The County Government reiterated its commitment to collaborating with KEWOSA and other stakeholders to promote gender-responsive governance and strengthen the fight against SGBV across the counties.
