Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports, Salim Mvurya, has assured the nation that Kenya stands fully prepared to host a secure and spectacular African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 final between Madagascar and Morocco on Saturday at Kasarani Stadium.
Speaking at a press conference on Friday, CS Mvurya detailed extensive security and logistical arrangements for the continental showdown, which has attracted the attention of the entire continent.
“We have made all the adequate arrangements, beginning with security and the many other issues that relate to the logistics for the finals,” Mvurya stated authoritatively.
The high-stakes match will draw a host of global football dignitaries, including the presidents of FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
The government also expects senior delegations from Uganda and Tanzania, Madagascar’s Head of State, and a high-level Kenyan delegation.
A grand closing ceremony will launch the festivities at 2 p.m. sharp, featuring a series of activities and entertainment acts primarily from Kenya.
The ceremony will run until 5 p.m., followed by team preparations. The championship match will kick off exactly at 6 p.m.Authorities urge all ticket holders to arrive at the Kasarani Stadium by 1:30 p.m. to ensure seamless access and experience the full ceremony.
For fans without tickets, the government has designated five official fan zones across the city. These viewing areas will operate in Lanesam, Kibra’s DC grounds, Kidurai, and Jakarta.
Mvurya explained that the committee reduced the number of zones from an initial 13 to consolidate security resources effectively.
The Cabinet Secretary also took the opportunity to thank all Kenyans for their role in the tournament’s success. While expressing disappointment that the Harambee Stars did not reach the final, he congratulated the national team for its performance.
“They made us proud as Kenyans, and I’m sure as we prepare for AFCON 2027, we will continue to sharpen and strengthen our team,” Mvurya said, framing CHAN 2024 as critical preparation for co-hosting the larger tournament.
He concluded by thanking President William Ruto for his leadership and the Local Organizing Committee for its work, promising a climactic close to Kenya’s largest hosted football tournament.“We expect to end CHAN 2024 on a high note,” he said.
