Affordable Housing Board Launches 21-Day Boma Yangu Roadshow Across Nairobi Metro Counties

By Eddah Waithaka

The Affordable Housing Board (AHB) today kicked off a 21-day Boma Yangu roadshow spanning Nairobi, Kiambu, Machakos, and Kajiado counties, aiming to bring housing information and on-site registration assistance directly to residents.

The initiative enables account activation with a minimum contribution of KES 200 and provides access to various housing typologies and regional development projects.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony in Nairobi, AHB Chief Executive Officer Joe Mutugu urged residents to visit roadshow stops and engage directly with programme officials. He said the campaign would showcase 63 projects comprising 107,960 housing units across social, affordable, and market housing categories, helping residents understand options suited to their needs and income levels.

“As a board, we are showcasing 35 projects with 76,478 units in Nairobi and 28 projects with 31,482 units in the metropolitan counties,” said Mutugu.

The roadshow combines mobile sensitisation activities with outreach in estates, markets, shopping malls, and transport hubs. Information desks and field teams will guide residents through the registration process, housing options, payment plans, and referral of complex enquiries to authorised officers.

Nairobi County Commissioner Simon Osumba called on residents to visit activation stops and learn about the Affordable Housing Programme.

“I call upon all Kenyans to take time to visit the various stop points that the Boma Yangu crew will make during the 21-day activation period, to learn more about the offerings and the process toward becoming a homeowner. Kwa kweli, Pata Makao na Boma Yangu,” he said.

Osumba also encouraged civil servants and members of the disciplined forces to explore opportunities under the institutional and staff housing programme, which has approximately 26,190 units under construction nationally for teachers, security officers, and other public sector staff.

Beyond homeownership, the programme generates job and enterprise opportunities by engaging skilled and semi-skilled workers, including Jua Kali artisans and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) that supply doors, windows, metal fittings, timber products, paving blocks, and furniture, alongside on-site fabrication services.

Mutugu said the board was on course to ease the annual 200,000 housing unit deficit once the 313,910 affordable housing units at various stages of completion across the country are released to the market.

Residents in the four counties and beyond can engage roadshow teams for information and assistance. Those seeking to own a home can also access the official Boma Yangu platform at www.bomayangu.go.ke or dial *832# to register.
