Africa caught off guard on Wednesday night as Hollywood star Idris Elba hijacked primetime television with a single powerful message: everything else can wait.

Millions of DStv and GOtv viewers across the continent experienced the sudden interruption on 15 April 2026 at 8pm CAT. Screens went black during live sport and other prime-time programming. A countdown ticked down.

Then a familiar silhouette appeared.It was Sir Idris Elba.‘There are ten of us now’The award-winning actor addressed Africa directly, celebrating a historic football moment. Ten African nations have qualified for the FIFA World Cup 2026™ – the most ever.
