Your September Streaming Guide: From Blockbuster Thrillers to Hit Local Dramas

By Eddah Waithaka

Showmax is unleashing a massive lineup of must-see TV this September, headlined by the return of a superhero hit and a slate of gripping new dramas.

Leading the charge is The Peacemaker S2, which continues to drop new episodes every Monday, express from the US.

Peacemaker

John Cena reprises his role as the conflicted antihero in the season critics are calling “more ambitious, more complex, and absolutely unskippable.” The series, helmed by James Gunn, currently holds a 99% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

They are not the only big titles arriving this month. The platform will also debut Task, a new crime drama from the creator of Mare of Easttown starring Mark Ruffalo and South Africa’s own Thuso Mbedu.

It joins Landman, the most streamed series globally in the first quarter of 2025, which features an all-star cast led by Golden Globe nominee Billy Bob Thornton.

Task

Local content also takes a major spotlight. The Showmax Original hit Youngins returns for its third season on September 19th, following the Olifants Five as they navigate new troubles at school.

Youngins

The critically acclaimed Afrikaans drama Nêrens, Noord-Kaap also drops the highly anticipated second part of its season on September 16th, fresh off its sweep at the Silwerskerm Awards.

Reality TV fans can binge the latest drama from the record-breaking Uthando Nes’thembu S8, while football fanatics get an all-access pass with Giants, a new documentary series going inside Orlando Pirates’ quest to end a 13-year league drought.

For those who love network procedurals, the entire Chicago universe arrives for a binge. Chicago Med S10, Chicago Fire S13, and Chicago P.D. S12 all land throughout the month, alongside the final season of the action-packed S.W.A.T. S8.

Rounding out the month is the insightful documentary Seen & Heard: The History of Black Television, executive produced by Issa Rae, and the return of the popular quiz show Wie Word ‘n Miljoenêr? S5.
