MultiChoice Launches 24-Hour Kiswahili Sports Channel for East African Fans

By Eddah Waithaka

SuperSport Swahili goes live November 5 on DStv channel 216, bringing live Premier League and more to Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda

MultiChoice, a CANAL+ company, launches SuperSport Swahili on November 5, 2026—a 24-hour sports channel delivered entirely in Kiswahili for fans across Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.

The channel debuts on DStv channel 216 and arrives as the headline sport addition to DStv’s new packages under its Expect More campaign, which rolls out simultaneously across all three markets. GOtv customers can access the channel on channel 570 through the Sports package, while viewers can also stream content on the DStv App.

Bringing the Beautiful Game Home

SuperSport Swahili delivers a selection of live Premier League matches to East African audiences in their language. The channel builds on SuperSport’s years of Kiswahili commentary experience across major competitions, from the Kenyan Premier League to the FIFA World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations.

The new offering takes that foundation further with dedicated presenters, studio shows and weekly programming designed specifically for Kiswahili-speaking fans.

Rendani Ramovha, CANAL+ Senior Vice-President of Sport Content for English- and Portuguese-speaking Africa, frames the launch as part of a broader localization strategy.

“Localisation is a key part of our content strategy, bringing the sport that matters most to people in Africa, in a language that resonates with them,” Ramovha says. “SuperSport Swahili isn’t merely about offering sport in a local East African language; we’ve done that for years. It’s about bringing the cultural feel and building an authentic affinity between us and our viewers.”

Ramovha points to the upcoming CAF AFCON PAMOJA 2027, which Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania will co-host, as a pivotal moment for the region.

“African football is about the full experience. It’s about the rivalries, the clash of giants and the spectacular vibe, and now our subscribers in Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda will get to live it in Kiswahili,” he says. “With AFCON PAMOJA 2027 coming up, the continent has never been better placed to tell its story in our own languages.”

Beyond football, the schedule includes live studio presentations on selected games, WWE Raw, SmackDown and UFC with Kiswahili voiceovers for delayed broadcast, plus Premier League Stories and The Big Interview dubbed into Kiswahili alongside highlights and repeats.

The channel draws matches weekly from SuperSport’s extensive sports properties, covering the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, LaLiga, Serie A, Ligue 1, FA Cup, Carabao Cup, international football and Diamond League athletics and marathons.

The Voices Behind the Channel

Presenters Ahmed Abdallah, Geoffrey Lea and George Embangile lead the launch lineup. Commentators Ibrahim Masoud, Ansibert Mwombeki, Wilson Upete, Edgar Kibwana, Jemedari Kazumari and Aboubakar Liongo complete the on-air team.

Abdallah describes the channel as a natural home for the region’s football culture.

“Kiswahili is the language of the football conversation in East Africa. Now we have a channel that gives that passion a home of its own, with live matches, studio shows and voices that fans know,” he says. “We can’t wait to welcome everyone on Thursday for the first kick-off.”

SuperSport Swahili plans to launch a weekly Kiswahili magazine show, Saa Ya Michezo (The Sports Hour), in early 2027, along with regional documentaries and a SuperSport Swahili news section online.

Fans can follow updates on the channel’s new social accounts on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok, which go live with the channel on November 5.
