CANAL+ and Samsung Bring DStv Stream Directly to Smart TVs Across 18 African Countries

By Eddah Waithaka

In a landmark move set to reshape digital entertainment across the continent, CANAL+ and Samsung Electronics have expanded their strategic partnership to pre-install the DStv Stream app on Samsung Smart TVs throughout 18 English- and Portuguese-speaking African markets.

Starting June 1, 2026, every new Samsung Smart TV sold in key countries including South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Angola, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe, will feature the DStv Stream app directly on the home screen. This rollout marks the first time any MultiChoice Group streaming application has been factory-installed on Samsung devices, accelerating the pay-TV giant’s push into the streaming and OTT ecosystem.

The integration gives Samsung users one-click access to MultiChoice’s premium content library without the need for external decoders or additional setup. Subscribers can instantly stream the entire FIFA World Cup 2026, every match of the English Premier League, and top-tier domestic and international rugby, alongside a deep catalogue of local African dramas, international series, and blockbuster films.

“This milestone represents the tangible power of combining CANAL+ and MultiChoice Group,” said David Mignot, CEO of CANAL+ Africa and CEO of MultiChoice Group. “As viewing habits evolve rapidly across the continent, we are making it simpler than ever for millions of subscribers to discover and enjoy the unique content that defines our experience. Samsung’s market leadership makes them the ideal partner for this expansion.”

The new deal builds on an existing collaboration already active across 40 markets in Europe, French-speaking Africa, and Asia. By extending that framework to MultiChoice’s heartland, the companies directly address the growing demand for connected-device access in regions where mobile and smart-TV viewing now outpace traditional satellite consumption.

For Samsung, the integration strengthens its smart-TV ecosystem by delivering a premium, locally relevant entertainment anchor out of the box. For CANAL+ and MultiChoice, the pre-installation removes friction for existing subscribers while lowering the barrier for new customers who want seamless access to live sports and on-demand entertainment.

The DStv Stream app will appear on the home screen of all new Samsung Smart TV models across the 18-nation footprint, requiring no download or search. Existing Samsung TV owners can still install the app manually via the Samsung App Store.
