More than 100 mechanics from across the North Rift gathered in Eldoret today as Vivo Energy Kenya honored the skilled professionals who keep Kenya’s transport, agriculture, and businesses moving.
The 2nd annual Mechanics Wellness Day, held under the theme “Celebrating the People Behind Kenya’s Mobility Ecosystem,” recognized mechanics for their pivotal contributions to the nation’s economy. These professionals service tractors preparing farmland, trucks transporting fresh produce, buses connecting communities, and family vehicles traveling across the country.
“Behind every safe journey, every successful delivery, and every successful harvest is a mechanic whose expertise makes it possible,” said Stephen Gikonyo, Lubricants & LPG Sales and Marketing Manager at Vivo Energy Kenya. “Through Shell Lubricants, we are proud to stand alongside these professionals by investing not only in high-quality products but also in their health, skills, and wellbeing.”
The wellness event combined health, sports, and recreation, featuring football matches, pool and darts competitions, indoor games, and comprehensive health screenings. Equity Afya provided free medical services to address the unique occupational hazards mechanics face daily.
“Mechanics often work long hours in confined spaces, lift heavy equipment, and are regularly exposed to physically demanding conditions,” said Ezra Omwancha of Equity Afya. “Through this initiative, we are providing free health screening and related medical services to help ensure they remain healthy and able to continue supporting Kenya’s transport and agricultural sectors.”
Through Shell Lubricants, Vivo Energy Kenya continues to support mechanics beyond the workshop through technical training, product knowledge programs, safety education, and access to world-class lubrication solutions. These initiatives help workshops deliver better service, build customer confidence, and improve engine performance while reducing operating costs.
The celebrations culminated in an awards ceremony recognizing winners of various sporting and recreational competitions.
